THE BASES OF THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION IN GREAT BRITAIN (ANA Y IRAIA)

AGRICULTURE INCREASED THE YIELDS

That is possible because there is a decrease of death and the birth rate has remined high which caused a high natural growth. The decrease in mortality has been posible because of the natural Revolution thanks to it these has been an improvement in food agriculture increased the yields, decrease in major epidemics and the improvement of medicine.

CLOSURE LAW

The "enclosures" or fencing of the open fields were put into practice in England after the application of the "Fencing Laws".
Open fields were  exploited collectively by small farmers who had to abandom them because their rights based on tradition were not respected by the new laws. These were plots of land to which the countrymen had access, but without holding ownership. They were scattered on strips of  land disconnected from each other and open at the entrance of cattle. The yields of these lands were very low and their economic function was oriented to survival. The fencing laws meant the replacement plots became property of individuals, grouped and closed by fences.
  • The fences contributed to:
-The improvement of agricultural productivity and the increase in food surpluses avaiable.
-The improvement in the quality of food that led to the "Demographic Revolution".
-A contribution of capital from the benefits of landowners, essential in the financing of new industrial companies.
-The supply  of a cheap workforce that  was employed in the industry and contributed to the accumulation of capital essential for its development.

Technical progress:

The culture system based on the three-year rotation was replaced by the Norfolk systen,of continuous rotation. included fodder for livestock, wich imcreased livestock which provided more manure to fertilize, which improved human nutrition by increasing consumption of proteins.

-Other agrarian improvements: were the diessemination of crops such as corn and potatoes;the use of sowing and harvesting machines, the beginning of the selection of seeds and livestock breeds, and the beginning of the use of chemical fertilizers.

AGRARIAN TRANSFORMATIONS :

  • The Norfolk system was divided into leaves in which they were continuously, wheat, turnips, barley and alfalfa and clover. The production of livestock feed allowed the growth of livestock.Provided fertilizers and provided meat and milk that improved feeding human.

  • The seeder machine:The seeder machine of Jethro Tull, allowed to saw quickly. It was dragged by horses, had bars to make grooves that allowed to saw seeds,a rake that threw the earth on them, protecting them from birds and wind.
